records was established in 1989 in London. Babel records is an independent
record label. Our main forte is Indie pop. We buy all services from
outher recording facility (Hidden Studios). We are a small company,
5 owners with grate love for Indie Pop. So
what's Indie rock? It is more melodic, less noisy, and relatively angst-free
counterpart, Indie Pop reflects the underground's softer, sweeter side,
with a greater emphasis on harmonies, arrangements and songcraft. Indie,
the word is derived from independent, which generally refers music on
an independent label. This term was coined in the early eighties as artists
such as The Cure, The Smiths, Echo and the Bunnymen and New Order were
on indie labels, releasing interesting progressive guitar and electronic
music. After Nirvana inadvertently brought alternative music into the
Top Ten in 1991, many alternative bands resisted the fact that their music
was becoming popular, so they went further underground. They refused to
sign to major labels and adhered to their independent, punk ideals. Not
all of the music sounds the same, but nearly every indie-rock band is
based in post-punk guitar rock of the '80s.Today however a lot of artists
that are considered in the indie genre are on major labels or have major
distributors and are finding success on both the independent and mainstream
charts. Britpop was a term that started to be used around 1994 to describe
the upsurgence in UK pop music, as artists such as Blur, Oasis, Pulp,
Elastica and Supergrass were all doing very well in the UK and elsewhere.
